This is an iconic Sport touring bike and is one of the most capable and reliable R bikes of the past 2 decades when it comes to the touring segment as it expanded on what the bike that defined the sport touring class did in the 90's the R1100RT. This bike has many improvements over its predecessor which can be read in the review article below. This particular RT has had some things changed and upgraded over time as it has aged in order to correct some of the mechanical weak points these bikes were known to have using the accumulated knowledge of the R bike owners groups from the last 2 decades. This one has been made largely bulletproof by having its rear drive fully rebuilt by a reputable BMW guru that is known for doing 1000's of these rears. Also, it has had the infamous hall effect sensor wiring properly fixed and has had the dreaded Servo assisted ABS brake system removed in favor of good old fashioned stainless braided lines which has been a staple on every road race bike for over 40 years because of how well they work. No ABS modulators to worry about now just a simple and straightforward braking system that has better feel than stock. This was done properly so that there are no pesky ABS fault lights flashing on the dash while you're riding so that you can enjoy every minute of the seamless Boxer torque curve after curve undistracted by unnecessary warnings. The gear position sensor is another common failure item that is an unnecessary ancillary component and has been eliminated as well which just results in the loss of a neutral light and the gear indicator on the dash now registers 0 at all times. The bike has a few other nice options that were added back in the day such as the factory top trunk and side panniers, driving lights, and Givi touring windshield. The bike came with a host of features from the factory to make for a better touring experience as well all of which still work well including the electronically adjustable windshield, heated grips, height adjustable seat, center stand, as well as a digital information provided in the info center to the right of the gauges showing engine temp, and fuel level. All of the above-mentioned factory features still function flawlessly and this entire wiring harness has been gone over and had the problematic stock rubber sheathing replaced and properly rewrapped with wire loom tape. The R series of sport touring bikes have been renowned as some of the most reliable bikes in the world with typical German engineering and Teutonic build quality which has kept them at the top of the touring game.
